Take lunch!
This is one of the simplest ways to lead a happier daily life. This goes to those who are working for themselves and those in a 9-5 grind. It may be tempting to finish that one thing but taking a lunch break, eating without a screen, and maybe even getting in a quick lap, means you’ll be more productive in the day and over time! That walk will also keep your body healthier!
Set your business hours
I don’t answer emails past 8pm anymore. I realized that as a consumer/client I sometimes send things off in the night and when I do, I expect a response in the AM – I only wanted to ask something while it was top of mind. Vice Versa, I don’t need to respond to a client’s 10 pm email! I have, and the client has opened it at 10 am! Technology has made it so that we are available at all hours, but that doesn’t mean we have to be! Set your business hours for a healthier happier you – it’s also way easier to calculate your profits when you know exactly how many hours you worked!
Makeup Appointments for Personal Time
Need to hit the gym? Put it in your calendar
Kids soccer game? Set a reminder
Long overdue weekend Brunch!? BLOCK IT OFF.
Making your personal appointments just as high priority as your business ones, means you will show up for yourself.
Delve into Passions!
For many of us, our businesses started as a passion project, so we often forget that as humans we are able to be passionate about more than one thing!
Love painting? Skiing? Gardening? Resist the urge to spend all your free time running errands and cleaning, and make time to do the things you love! You’ll be rejuvenated, and you may find that your personal passions help you in your day-to-day work. Whenever I paint, I get inspired to create a new makeup look! By spending time on your passions, you’ll also have things to discuss with your friends when you see them 😉
Set your Out of Office
We’re all human. We know we need breaks to function. Check in with clients who have events approaching and finalize any details you can before you leave for an extended vacation. Then create an out of office alert that let’s client know exactly when they can expect to hear from you, so they aren’t left high and dry. You can do this on Facebook business pages now as well!
Delegate
If you find you are so busy that you can’t possibly find time to vacate… AMAZING! Your hard work has paid off, and your success is growing! It’s time to start delegating some tasks and freeing up some of your personal time. You can hire virtual assistants, social media specialists, extra talent, there really isn’t a limit! Remember that you started your business so that you could live your best life – now live it!
Increase Your Rates
If you find you are burning the candle at both ends and still not making the income you need to take that vacation, or work less than 7 days a week, you may need to raise your rates. Its scary, but the payoff is huge. Work Smarter, Not Harder.
Schedule regular vacations and when you’re off – UNPLUG.
Finally got yourself to Bora Bora!? Resist the urge to book that cabana with Wi-Fi. Lay in that hammock with a book instead of your iPad. DO NOT WORK. Allowing yourself to immerse yourself in that vacation, live your best life, and enjoy the details will bring you back fresh and ready to battle! Treat your vacation like a work trip and you’ll come back with the same tired energy you left with, and jet lag 🙁
That’s all from me folks! I’m heading off to a BBQ with today! I’ve finished this Blog Post, set my out of office, and am ready for Food, Fun and Friends!
Happy Canada Day!
